Project Discovery, Dallas Theater Center’s signature education program, provides in-depth theater experiences for thousands of teens (many of whom are considered "at-risk") from 30 North Texas high schools. Since 1986, Project Discovery has helped over 265,000 students and teachers to experience and study the finest in live, professional theater. Dallas Theater Center provides this program in full, at no charge to the school (including tickets, teacher training, study guides, student pre-show workshops and buses) for every production during the school year.

–First Lady Michelle Obama?.....

►  Project Discovery schools represent communities across North Texas, from inner-city Dallas to rural towns. Students travel distances as little as half a mile to more than 80 miles to participate.

►  Half of the students who participate in Project Discovery will see a professional theater production for the first time.

►  Project Discovery builds student confidence. Over the season, virtually all students report increased confidence in their own abilities, including theatrical skills and voicing their opinions.

► Every year, 99% of students report a desire to participate in Project Discovery again.

►  Teachers give Project Discovery artistic workshops 4 ¾ stars out of 5.

Project Discovery is a catalyst for young people to explore their place in the world. Built around performances at Dallas Theater Center, this yearlong afterschool program brings together diverse teens from at-risk high schools across North Texas and cultivates them as patrons, artists and thinkers. Through on-your-feet activities, students improve their creativity, engage in teamwork, and build their confidence. Through curriculum-related content, students explore literary themes and historic aspects of wide-ranging dramatic works. As they experience plays among an adult audience, participating students learn to be engaged arts patrons, with the self-assurance to discuss ideas with peers and adults alike.
