SENSE and SENSIBILITY: Jane Austen's Unapologetic Women

Jane Austen writes in Northanger Abbey that “a woman, especially if she has the misfortune of knowing anything, should conceal it as well as she can.” It’s a piece of advice that may sound peculiar coming from arguably the most widely read female author in the English-speaking world, but it is nevertheless advice Jane took to heart...

Thoroughly enjoyed this Broadway caliber cast. The verson they portrayed of Sense and Sensibility really played up Jane Austen's sharp wit. What a fast-paced hilarious ride! Special thanks to the Gossip Chorus for their excellent work!

I enjoyed the performance enormously. Laughter, intrigue, astonishment, crying and joy; everything an Austen admirer would expect from a production tasked with bringing her words to life. You all have done her great justice in staying true to the story; I was pleased that you included Willoughbys confession and where Ms. Austen leaves us to our own imagination when she doesnt articulate the exact words of Edwards proposal to Elinor, your homage to declarations made in her other novels was not missed. Bravo!

This was my second play at the Kalita Humphreys, and actually the second production I have ever been to in my life! I was in such awe! Many people have mentioned to me that when they make an adaptation, it becomes ruined. That was not so with Sense and Sensibility! I felt the emotions of the actors! I was awed at how they memorized all of their lines! The stage transformed from a drawing room to a ball! Sense and Sensibility is a classic and this rendition was so authentic - I think Jane Austen would be very proud! I cannot wait until you do more similar plays!
