COLOSSAL
4/2/2015 to 5/3/2015

Winner of the Kennedy Center’s Jean Kennedy Smith Playwriting Award, Colossal is an epic theatrical event, in which director Kevin Moriarty will create an intensely physical production of this spectacular and deeply moving new play. Featuring full contact choreography and a drumline, the story centers on a gay University of Texas football player, struggling to move forward in the wake of a catastrophic spinal injury. About love, ability, and extraordinary feats of strength, Colossal is both a celebration and critical examination of our nation’s most popular form of theater.  Contains adult themes and strong language. Recommended for ages 16 and above.

For this production the Wyly Theatre will be transformed into a football field, creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our patrons. Seating will be General Admission. Patrons will be seated according to the area number located in the middle of their ticket. Area 1 will be seated first and we will continue through Area 4. Please listen carefully for the announcements and look for signs stating which area is being seated.

The production runs 90 minutes with no intermission. There will be no late seating, and if you leave the theater space for any reason during the show you will not be readmitted. Food and drink will be permitted in the performance.

COLOSSAL was first produced in a rolling world premiere by Olney Theatre Center (Maryland), Mixed Blood Theatre (Minneapolis), Dallas Theater Center (Texas) and Southern Rep (Louisiana) as part of the National New Play Network’s Continued Life program.

I loved the show. It is a story that needed to be told and it was told well. Creative, captivating, and powerful, this production is the kick in the gut that Texas theatre needed. Uniting the talents of many through dance, music, athletics, and passionate story telling this play will not disappoint.

Stunning production! Best show of the year: creative, energetic, provocative, rich in talent -- an exceptional theatrical experience. Thank you!

Sometimes uncomfortable, geared towards the guy community, other than that, genius; set, drum line and dancers!! Lead actors Mike & Mike were awesome!!

Saw Colossal last night and I have to say thank you to the actors and whoever had a hand in making this play possible; Colossal was such an amazing work and the comedic and emotional aspect of it blended perfectly. The set of the play was incredible and i felt like i was living the story with them.I cried so much at the last scene and the movie titanic did not even make me shed a single tear.

Another wonderful creative success by Kevin. My wife Jean had a two-hour dance lesson from Dancing With The Stars' Derek Hough a couple of years ago and Derek described dancing as "creative athletics." Really resonated for us with the theme of the show. Ted & Jean

The show was a phenomenal experience. I am begging my friends to find a way to see it. I'm looking at ways that I might see it again. Thank you all for an amazing evening.

Saw the show last night. Absolutely compelling and captivating on so many levels! SO much going on on that stage that we're talking about seeing it again to catch even more of what all was going on. Percussion/drumline was fascinating in how they drove much of the emotion & pacing of the story (& we never knew cymbals could be used that way!). Acting was superb. Congrats to all for pulling off an incredibly complex, memorabe production! We've always thought Cabaret was our all-time DTC fave, but Colossal is a close 2nd, if not a tie. Thx for all the time, precision, energy, love you all poured into the show - it showed!
