The second production in DTC’s Classical Theater initiative, Medea, translated by Robinson Jeffers, is a 2500-year-old classic that still resonates today with its modern–day complexities of power, marriage, families and politics. Produced in Down Center Stage, the intimate basement theater space carved out of the Kalita Humphreys Theater, Medea will plunge the audience into the midst of an intense domestic dispute that quickly accelerates to its horrifying climax of violence, revenge and mutual destruction. With emotionally honest acting and a starkly beautiful, poetic text, Medea will be an unforgettable theatrical experience. Contains adult themes and intense violence.

Medea will be performed in the basement of the Kalita Humphreys Theater in a unique, rawly designed, non-traditional theater space. Women and men will be seated in different sections of the audience, and audience members may be separated from one or more of their companions. The production runs 90 minutes with no intermission. There will be no late seating, and if you leave the theater space for any reason during the show you will not be readmitted. Food and drink are not permitted in the performance.

The DTC production of Medea is devastatingly on target. The staging, the direction and most of all Sally Nystuen Vahle's heart stopping performance of the title role are all first rate. The Robinson Jeffers translation of Euripedes play is beautiful and heart rending. Kudos to all - this is how Greek tragedy should be done.

We saw both outstanding productions and learned though laughter and tears NEVER to underestimate a woman!

I really enjoyed DTC's production of Medea.

Seeing the two shows back-to-back on Sunday was a real treat. The use of the basement space for Medea was exciting and the cast, especially Sally Vahle, was outstanding.
