Back to School with DTC (posted 08-12-2013)

The district is abuzz as Arts Magent HIgh School students head back to campus, the education team is abuzz as well kicking off our three major school programs.

Thirty-eight schools will be joining DTC throughout the year, thanks to generous donations from individuals and corporations. This season, the 27th season of Project Discovery sees students returning from throughout Dallas, Irving, Carrollton, Garland, Lancaster and pulling the long haul from Athens and Blum! But also this year we'll have students travel from Fort Worth and Arlington to participate in workshops, study live theater and try it out on their feet. Perhaps you'll see them in your audience one night, sitting forward, soaking in the experience, or sharing their thoughts and questions in Dr Pepper Snapple Stay Late!

A Raisin in the Sun is a great kick-off to their year-long theatrical journey. Together we'll explore the changing face of neighborhoods on stage, with a variety of neighborhoods in our audience, digging into questions about our own families, communities and histories. A Raisin in the Sun will also welcome our most students at daytime performances yet! This classic text written by Lorraine Hansberry is a strong addition to many school's fall curriculum. Throughout the month of October schools will be headed into the Wyly Theatre for a transformational experience. If you know of a classroom who is exploring these very questions, click here to find out about tickets to the daytime performances.
While the Wyly is bustling day and night with students experiencing perhaps their first theatrical production, Christie Vela and members of our Brierley Resident Acting Company will be deeply entrenched with Advanced Acting students as part of the 5th annual class of the Ted and Shannon Skokos Learning Lab. These students will progress through four full units on classic and contemporary plays alike, challenged at a college level pace to activate text and push their abilities.

Whether you are a student headed back to school or life-long learner keep checking back for new things to learn, or join us for Come Early, a lecture one hour prior to each show this season!
