By sponsoring Giant and FLY and other theater events, Pioneer has had the opportunity to help enrich the local community. Having a vibrant cultural presence enhances the appeal of the city in general and supports an environment highlighting creativity and innovation. And Pioneer is all about creativity and innovation.
Our corporate partnership is led by Scott Sheffield and his wife Kimberley, who are strong patrons of Dallas Theater Center and who also generously invest their time and funding in the work of musical theater. They actively encourage employees to experience family friendly musical theater offerings in Dallas. Kim currently serves on the DTC Board of Trustees.
It has been terrific to see so many Pioneer employees and their families participate in your Company Night events at the Theater. Are group outings like this part of the reason that Pioneer keeps getting recognized as a top DFW workplace? What else do you do to engage your employees?
We feel that being recognized by our employees, through their survey responses, as a “Top Place to Work” is one of the most special recognitions Pioneer receives. We strive for an open and collaborative culture at Pioneer, keys to employee satisfaction with their work. We work in teams where ideas and efforts are valued and recognized. Employees are engaged through shared values of family, education and health (flexible work schedules, on-site classes for training and professional development, wellness programs and fitness facilities). We place a priority on having fun too, so we offer company outings such as DTC’s Company Night, ski trips and sporting events.
DTC is so grateful that Pioneer has made a commitment to our educational programming for the next five years. Tell us about the company’s interest in arts education.
Pioneer is a supporter of the growing science and arts resources made available to students in Dallas and hopes that an enriched education will lead to successful and fulfilling careers for all students which in turn will have a positive economic impact on our communities.
We are driven to help children succeed – in school, in the workforce and in life. Supporting DTC’s flagship education program, Project Discovery, is just one facet of this effort. Locally, we support the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Dallas Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and we offer many summer internships. In our operating areas, we fund youth initiatives such as Midland’s Early College High School, a summer Youth Leadership Program in South Texas, projects to upgrade youth sports facilities, and support for schools and extracurricular programs such as 4-H and livestock shows.
Are there other ways that Pioneer is involved in the community?
Many of our employees are engaged in volunteer opportunities through Pioneer’s community involvement with Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and A Brush With Kindness. A number of Pioneer employees also compete each summer/fall in the Corporate Challenge, a competitive event between businesses that benefits Special Olympics. Each spring we jointly sponsor the Dallas CASA Golf Classic to support CASA in their efforts to speak for abused and neglected children until they find safe and permanent homes. Our employees and their families volunteer with and participate in many other causes and benefits such as Relay for Life, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day and MS150.
5) Is there anything else you would like DTC audiences to know about Pioneer?
Pioneer is a place with strong leadership, an uplifting culture and a valued sense of family. Our employees want success for each other, for the Company and for communities in the DFW area and our areas of operation across the U.S.
