STAGGER LEE Society Kick-Off

On Tuesday, September 30, Dallas Theater Center launched the Stagger Lee Society with a kick-off event at the home of Sarah and Ross Perot, Jr..  Guests enjoyed the magnificent view of the Dallas skyline from the Perots’ balcony of the W Residences while sampling a suptuous array of hors d’oeuvres provided by The Food Company.  Playwright-in-residence Will Power introduced the 75 guests to his new musical Stagger Lee, which is set to premiere at DTC in January 2015.  Will gave a brief history of the music and African-American folk tales that inspired the characters in his play.  Traci Lee, who will appear onstage in Stagger Lee, performed the musical number “Northern Woman” from the show.  Managing Director Heather Kitchen also addressed guests, highlighting the vital partnership between DTC, Will Power and Southern Methodist University.  Finally, the Society’s chair Jennifer Altabef explained the purpose of the Stagger Lee Society, to raise $250,000 to offset the expenses of staging this new work.
