REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES

April 26-May 19     Kalita Humphreys Theater
Ana just graduated from high school, and though she dreams of going to college and becoming a writer, for now she is stuck working in her sister’s garment factory in East L.A. The hours are long and the pay is low, but Ana grows to appreciate the strength, passion, and dedication of the women she works beside. While the ladies of Real Women Have Curves struggle with things as personal as body image and as consequential as the threat of deportation, they still find joy, humor and beauty in their relationships with one another, and within themselves.

Dallas Theater Center maintains a resident acting company. When casting productions, DTC looks first to the Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company to fill roles. DTC also maintains a relationship with Meadows School of the Arts at SMU and Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts. As part of this relationship DTC often casts students from these programs in mainstage productions. Additionally, DTC casts actors from the region and nationally for a variety of roles. Auditions for these roles occur on an as-needed basis throughout the year.

Dallas Theater Center works under the League of Regional Theatres (LORT) contract with Actors Equity Association (AEA), the union of actors and stage managers. The union determines the number of Equity and non-Equity actors cast in each production.  Local equity and non-equity auditions are scheduled once per year. These usually take place in the late spring.  Information about local generals will be posted on our website and on the Actors' Equity website as well as through our local media prior to auditions.

Dallas auditions are announced on our website and through the local media.  General auditions are held every Spring for the following season.

Additional auditions are held in New York, in conjunction with New York-based casting directors. These auditions are generally by agent submission only.

Local children’s auditions are held in the early fall and on a show-by-show basis. Information about local generals will be posted on our site as well as through our local media prior to auditions.

Physical headshots and résumés should always:

  • include the current email and phone number you wish DTC to use, should we need to contact you (agent information on the resume means we will contact your agent);
  • include union status (AEA, EMC, Non-union);
  • be stapled back-to-back; and
  • be 8 x 10 inches (both the headshot and resume).

Digital files of headshots and résumés should always:
